Defining “Nutrients Mission” proposal for FP9 Horizon Europe

The European Commission has started preparation of FP9 (Horizon Europe) the Research & Innovation funding programme 2021-2028, which will follow on after Horizon2020 with an expected budget of around 100 billion € . The draft Regulation text outlining structure and objectives of Horizon Europe was published 7th June and proposes to include “Missions” (art. 5 of published Regulation) which will be horizontal, across the “Challenges” (thematic R&D funding).

ESPP has contracted an independent journalist to draft an outline proposal (attached) for a “Mission” on nutrients, based on input from a stakeholders, in particular resulting from the meeting organised on 30th May by SYSTEMIC and Biorefine Cluster Europe, with ESPP and INMS (international nitrogen management system) and the meeting at the European Sustainable Phosphorus Conference (ESPC3), Helsinki, 11th June.

The text submitted to DG Research as initial input on 20th July can be found here.
Further discussion and development of this is ongoing, and input is welcome:
