European Commission (DG AGRI), head of unit
Oliver Sitar is head of unit in the directorate-general for Agriculture and Rural Development in the European Commission. His unit on the governance of the agri-food markets led the Commission’s work on the 2019 Directive on unfair trading practices. Most recently, it has been involved in the Commission’s response in the agri-food area to the Covid and Ukraine crises, inter alia by setting up and operating an institutional crisis mechanism. Oliver’s prior work experience in the Commission includes a five-year stint in DG Competition and work as a trade counsellor in the EU Delegation to the WTO in Geneva. He holds a law degree from the University of Vienna and a post-graduate degree in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins University in Bologna.
