The WWF’s Baltic Sea Farmer of the Year Award annually recognises individual or cooperative farmers in the Baltic catchment who are implementing exemplary practices in nutrient management. Each year one farmer prize-winner from each Baltic catchment state plus an overall winner are selected.
Sweden’s REVAQ certification ensures that sewage sludge digestate fulfils quality criteria enabling its use in agriculture, so recycling the nutrients and organic carbon.
At ESPC2, SNB (Slibverwerking Noord-Brabant), HVC Groep and EcoPhos announced signature of a contract to use c. 60 000 tonnes/year of sewage sludge incineration ash from the Netherlands as a raw material for phosphorus recycling.
Vlaco is appointed by the Flemish Waste Authority OVAM to implement quality control for the biological treatment of biowaste. To perform this, Vlaco developed a quality assurance system through independent certification. The Vlaco Quality Assurance Scheme is based upon the principles of auto control and includes integral chain management.
Application of animal slurry based on phosphorus value with adjustment of N-value through injection of liquid ammonia into slurry and eliminating ammonia emission through pH control using sulphuric acid, which doubles as S-fertilizer.
The NuReSys-P technology enables to produce struvite pellets (2-3mm diam) which can be separated from the sludge (effluent from UASB reactor). Struvite has a crystal structure that is pure and can be reused as a slow fertilizer.
This solution aims at the precipitation P with FeCl3 by recovering P & N by controlled struvite formation. A 45m³/h pilot plant showed satisfying results during 24 months, after which Clarebout pototoes decided to build a 120m³/h plant at the Nieuwkerke site and 80m³/h plant at the Waasten site.
This project aims at proving & demonstrating technical and economical feasibility of NuReSys-P technology, applied on digested sludge and investigating technological triggers causing improved dewater ability.
